How many times do you think you’ve listened to Journey’s 80’s rock Don’t Stop Believin'? I think we can all recite the entire song from memory without any difficulties— it’s even my favorite karaoke song! Lately, I've been thinking about the chorus: “Don’t stop believing, hold on to the feeling.” When we stop believing in ourselves, we can get so lost. We can become listless and lose sight of our direction or purpose in life. However, when we “hold on to the feeling” and continue to believe in ourselves, we are invigorated and reminded not only to keep on moving (or dancing!) but also forge new paths that bring us closer to our goals.
When you think about the goals that you set for this year, how do you feel? Do you feel ready to embrace the challenge? Maybe you’re still feeling a little bit of uncertainty. That’s okay! In fact, it’s completely normal to feel a bit apprehensive about embarking on your goals. The only way to get through this feeling is by addressing your fears and anxieties that surround your goals, without letting them get in your way. Ask yourself— what is stopping you from making your dream a reality?
Let’s think of an example. Maybe you had a big goal this year; you wanted to start a new business venture, or maybe you wanted topick up a new hobby. Whatever the goal is, maybe the thought of starting on that goal makes you pause for a second. Fear can leave us paralyzed in thought, or should I say OVERthought. My advice is to not overthink it! Come up with one step (even if it’s a baby step) that you can take towards your goal. Whatever that may be, get to it and push the fear aside!
Once we’ve taken action, we’re one step closer to our goals. But what happens next? How can we continue to believe in our goals? I I invite you to explore the steps below...
Three Steps To Believing:
-Be honest with yourself about what you truly desire
-Reflect on your passions, values, and aspirations
-Understand why these goals matter to you
-Align with your innermost desires
-Take action with purpose
-Break down your goals into smaller, manageable tasks, and work on them consistently
-Reinforce your belief in the possibility of achieving your goals
-Maintain a positive mindset throughout your journey
-Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and learning
-Surround yourself with positivity and supportive individuals who uplift & encourage you
-Let your enthusiasm and positivity shine, keeping you motivated as you pursue your goals
It’s important to remind ourselves that we all need a good support system— people who help us achieve our goals. We can’t do it all on our own! Having a support system is one of the best ways to hold yourself accountable, and ensure that your goals are met.
In the symphony of life, the echoes of Don't Stop Believin' remind us of the power of unwavering faith in ourselves and our dreams. As we journey through existence, doubts may dim our aspirations, yet our beliefs— and holding on to them tight— is what remains. Consider your goals this year, do they stir fear or ignite passion? Maybe a bit of both! Embrace the uncertainty, and begin by taking steps (even if they’re small ones) toward your goals and dreams.
Be Well. Do Well.
