An Opportunity for Improved Mental Health: With Guest Cory Richards

Thanksgiving week is here, and it’s the perfect time to reflect on gratitude—not just as a fleeting thought but as a mindset and a daily practice. I’m so grateful for this community and the opportunity to share and learn alongside you all.

Here’s why gratitude matters:

*Shifts perspective: It helps us focus on the positive, rewiring our brains to notice the good around us.

*Builds resilience: It enables us to reframe challenges as opportunities to grow and learn.

*Strengthens relationships: Gratitude deepens our connections with others and fosters a sense of belonging.

I feel so incredibly blessed for the opportunities I have to meet and learn from the inspiring individuals I have as guests on my podcast. I am thankful for making the connection and interaction Cory Richards, my guest on Episode 113 of the Opportunity Knocks Podcast. From the day we met, I knew we had a kindred connection, and I am so excited to share that here with you today.

Cory is a renowned National Geographic photographer, a mental health advocate, and a professional climber whose journey is nothing short of extraordinary. His vulnerability, passion, and authenticity shine through in everything he does, and I am so thrilled to share our conversation with you.

Beyond his mountaineering accomplishments, Cory is a passionate mental health advocate.

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 14, he has used his journey to challenge stigma and inspire others through his new book, The Color of Everything: A Journey to Quiet the Chaos Within.

Cory believes a diagnosis is just the beginning, not the end, and advocates for thriving beyond perceived limitations. Our conversation delved into cultural biases around mental health, the power of embracing life's "shades of gray," the value of experiential learning, and the liberating belief that we are enough as we are. Cory's story is one of resilience, authenticity, and transformation, offering tools and inspiration for personal growth.

Cory has authored two incredible books that would be amazing holiday gifts—perfect for anyone seeking inspiration and tools for mental wellness.

Bi Polar is Cory's first photography collection. It features some of his most stunning images from all over the world—climbing expeditions, global adventures, and even his earlier fashion and fine art work.

What makes this book so special is how personal it is. This collection is organized around the emotional highs and lows he’s experienced as part of his bipolar diagnosis. It’s not just about the photos; it’s about how art can help us process life’s toughest moments and connect with the world around us.

If you enjoyed Cory's episode on the Opportunity Knocks Podcast, you can read even more about his journey in his new book, The Color of Everything. This book is Cory's memoir, where he shares his journey from conquering some of the world’s highest peaks to facing the personal battles of fame, addiction, and trauma. With raw honesty and stunning photography from his career, Cory explores the cost of success and the path to healing, offering a powerful story of resilience and self-discovery.

Cory’s can’t miss reflections on living authentically, breaking free from your limitations and mental health are now available and LIVE on Episode 113 of Opportunity Knocks—now streaming!

Be well. Do well.

All my Best,
